So the Roberts 2008 vacation is now in the books. I was afraid for awhile that it might not happen at all. The Thursday before we left, I got a kidney stone. I had to go to the ER twice, once for pain management and once for dehydration. I was flat on my back for two days, but on the day before we left the stone moved to a position that moved it down the pain scale. And there it would stay until the day we came back.
We googled directions to the house in Kitty Hawk, NC. The directions said 5.5 to 6 hours. Sooooo it to 8 hours and change each direction. I guess they did a bit of rounding. That, or they did their test runs on the day after a nuclear holocaust. Both DC and the beach have something we in the east call “traffic”. On the way home, we were in such a snarl, that a girl jumped out of the car a few feet ahead, ran into a convenience store, bought sodas and snacks and got back in the car. We had only moved about 10 yards…but enough of the unpleasantness.
The townhouse we rented was fantastic. It was just the right size for a family of 3. There was a great pool and lazy river onsite. We were about 3 blocks from the beach and spent much of our time there. There were sand dunes about 5 miles away. We went miniature golfing twice. Saw the Star Wars cartoon….yawn. We ate some birthday cake (41, thank you). All and all, we just had a nice time (occasionally enhanced by the narcotics I was taking).
This week we are getting Ethan all ready for school. I have one last week to be a bum.
