Maintenance

The older I get, the more I realize that most of life revolves around maintenance.  Stuff just falls apart over time.  Having recently completed my 40th orbit of the sun, I now see the future like never before.  My illusions of immortality are shattered.

My parents visited this week.  They are but 22 years older than I.  Watching them struggle to get around I realized that I am on a path that leads to where they are.   Don’t get me wrong, they are great people.  But they like me do not take care of themselves.  And now they are paying the price. To twist a Judi Blume phrase, “I must…I must…I must reduce my gut.”
